Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenos Aires / Catedral Metropolitana de Buenos Aires
Today I visited the Cathedral of Buenos Aires for the first time. Two things caught my attention besides the impressive structure: the amount of tourists taking photos and the floor. The 2.600 square meters of tiny mosaics were put in place from 1907 to 1911 by Carlos Morra in replacement of the original black and white tiles from 1830. Patterns were inspired on the passion of Christ; therefore the passion flower is present all over the interior of the cathedral’s base. More pictures of the cathedral here.
Hoy visité la catedral metropolitana de Buenos Aires por primera vez. Dos detalles llamaron mi atención además de la imponente estructura: la cantidad de turistas que había sacando fotos y el piso. La catedral posee 2.600 metros cuadrados de mosaicos diminutos que fueron colocados entre 1907 y 1911 por Carlos Morra en reemplazo de las baldosas blancas y negras, originales de 1830. Los motivos fueron inspirados en la pasión de Cristo, por lo tanto la flor la pasionaria está presente en casi todo el interior del piso de la catedral.
