Walking the streets at night is a complete different experience when visiting any city. With some buildings illuminated and less crowded streets, you can get a different feeling of the city, and sometimes, you can even feel that you’ve traveled to the past. Con edificios iluminados y las calles menos pobladas, uno puede captar una atmósfera diferente y hasta sentirse transportado al pasado, en muchos casos. Located on Avenida de Mayo between Luis Saénz Peña and San José streets, the Inmobiliaria building was originally an insurance company. It was built in 1910 by the architect Luis Broggi. The superior part presents two reddish domes, with art noveau reminiscences, Italian-like and neoclassicist features, represented by the statues of Venus and Apollo located on top of the building.

Ubicado en Avenida de Mayo entre las calles Luis Saénz Peña y San José, el edificio “La Inmobiliaria” fue originalmente ocupado por una compañía de seguros. Fue construido en 1910 por el arquitecto Luis Broggi. Los extremos superiores presentan dos cúpulas rojizas y cuenta con reminiscencias art nouveau e influencia italiana y neoclásica, representada por estatuas de Venus y Apolo.

Plaza Congreso is bordered by two smaller squares: Moreno and Lorea. From there, you can appreciate several monuments (among them the “Monumento a los Dos Congresos” and “Monumento a Mariano Moreno”) and remarkable buildings, such as the one on 1745 Rivadavia Ave. with a big clock, the oldest theater of the city (“El Liceo”), “La Inmobiliaria” and “Palacio Barolo”. Building on Rivadavia Ave.
Plaza Congreso está rodeada por dos plazas más pequeñas: Moreno y Lorea. Desde allí, podemos apreciar varios monumentos, entre ellos el monumento a los Dos Congresos y el monumento a Mariano Moreno. También observamos edificios impactantes, como el de Av. Rivadavia 1745 con su gigante reloj, el teatro más antiguo de la ciudad (Liceo), el edificio “La Inmobiliaria” y el famoso Palacio Barolo. I finally got my camera fixed. To celebrate, I met two Flickr friends (photo below), Graciela and Alejandro, and we went on a shooting safari this morning. We strolled along part of Avenida de Mayo, and then walked through Defensa Street until we reached the Plaza Dorrego’s fair (in San Telmo), which is celebrating its 35th anniversary. It was really fun being a tourist in my own amazing city. This first slide show features pictures taken at the Café Tortoni. Sunday, 10:30 AM, all tables were taken.

Finalmente recuperé mi cámara que ya fue arreglada. Para festejar, me encontré con dos amigos de Flickr, Graciela y Alejandro (en la foto abajo), y nos fuimos de safari fotográfico esta mañana. Caminamos parte de la Avenida de Mayo y luego seguimos a pie hasta San Telmo, por la calle Defensa, hasta llegar a Plaza Dorrego, que está celebrando su aniversario número 35. Fue divertido ser turista en mi propia y maravillosa ciudad. Este primer set de fotografías las tomé en el Café Tortoni. Domingo, 10:30 de la mañana y todas las mesas estaban ocupadas.
